About the area


Happy Days Bed and Breakfast is located on the outskirts of the village of St Méard de Gurçon. The village is situated between St Emilion and Bergerac, both of which are renowned for their wine and food. The closest riverside towns are Montpon-Menesterol and Ste Foy La Grande. Both have a full range of supermarkets, shops, restaurants and bars.

PLACES TO VISIT

 

LAC DE GURSON

Approximately 9kms away it has two lakes one for fishing, one for swimming, a sandy beach and it offers other various activities: watersports, tennis and crazy golf. A variety of restaurants and cafes are located around the lake. If you like walking its a lovely walk around both lakes.

 

AQUAPARK/JUNIORLAND BERGERAC

On the Bergerac to Bordeaux road about 20 mins away its a great day out it has 4 swimming pools with water chutes (2 pools for younger children) and beach volleyball .

 

LAKE LA JEMAYE

Close to the village of La Jemaye between Montpon-Menesterol and Riberac approx 30mins away but well worth the drive. It has a lovely beach, watersports, restaurants, shops and cafes.

 

PROGLISSE

A sports and leisure complex about 3kms away from us open all year featuring Jet Skis,Quad bikes and roller skates it also has a bar and other facilities.

 

SAINT EMILION

A medieval town which stands proudly on top of a hill overlooking the Dordogne Valley. It has the most fascinating architecture. It is renowned for its wine all around the world.

 

VILLEFRANCHE DE LONCHAT

A small bastide village about 6 km away .It has a market on a Tuesday and there are also local shops.

 

CASTILLON DE BASTILLE

A busy market town famous for the nearby battleground where the 100 years war came to an end. Every summer the locals stage a spectacular floodlit re-enactment with 150 actors.

 

BERGERAC

For centuries the regions most important market town, port and commercial centre. The second largest city in the Dordogne, definitely a must visit with lots of worthwhile sites to see.

 

BORDEAUX

France’s second-largest Atlantic port and one of the worlds best wine producing regions.

 

RIBERAC

A pleasant town whose greatest claim to fame is its Friday market bringing producers and wholesalers from all around. Dotted out in the surrounding countryside are many Romanesque churches.
